I Found My iPod From 2005
I Found My iPod From 2005.
1 GB. $149. 240 Songs.
The specs
And this was the big one.
NOTHING ABOUT THE HARDWARE IS PROPRIETARY.
THE WEIRD PART
USB-A. 3.5mm headphones. USB storage.
THE USB PLUG IS BUILT RIGHT IN.
No cable. No dock. Pull off the cap and plug the entire iPod into a computer.
IT WAS ALSO A FLASH DRIVE.
ONE MORE THING
Apple let you use part of its 1 GB of storage for ordinary files.
21 YEARS LATER…
I plugged it into my MacBook Pro. It recognized “HyperPod” immediately.
AND THEN I FOUND THIS.
lost_cat.jpg — March 2005. Tuna was our cat. We never found her.
WHY CAN IT STILL WORK?
No cloud. No account. No Bluetooth. No online service. Standard headphones. USB. Local files.
SOMETIMES LESS TECHNOLOGY AGES BETTER.
The things it doesn’t need may be the reason it still works.
DOES IT STILL PLAY?
It’s charging now.
