Early Mining Heritage

Before becoming a world-renowned ski destination, Telluride was a thriving mining town established in the 1870s. The area was rich in gold, silver, and other precious metals, attracting miners and settlers to this remote Colorado valley.

Ski Resort Foundation

Telluride Ski Resort was founded in 1968 when local entrepreneur Joe Zoline recognized the area's potential for skiing. The first chairlift opened in 1972, marking the transformation from mining town to ski destination.

Growth and Development

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Telluride expanded significantly with new lifts, terrain, and the development of Mountain Village. The resort gained recognition for its challenging terrain and stunning alpine scenery.
