Murder in the Business World
MURDER IN THE BUSINESS WORLD
Today, I want to tell you a story.
A Businessman Found Dead
The crime
Imagine a businessman found dead in his office. He had a serious financial dispute with his business partner. Three days later, he is dead, and his partner is the main suspect.
But here is my question : Why would someone commit a crime in the business world?
maybe, it is greed: wanting more money or power.
maybe, it is fear of losing a company or a fortune.
And maybe, it is revenge after a serious conflict.
These are possible motives, but they don't explain every crime. Understanding the motive is important, but is it enough to prove guilt?
Return to the Case
The investigation
Let's return to our case. The business partner had a motive, but there are other suspects. The police must look for evidence, such as contracts, emails, and financial records.
In criminology, we try to understand why people commit crimes. In business law, we must also respect the law.
a motive is not proof. A person must be presumed innocent until their guilt is legally established.
They Are Not the Same
Motive vs. proof
Someone may have a reason to commit a crime, but that doesn't mean they committed it.
Now, Imagine You Are the Judge.
The judgment
You know about the conflict. You know about everything. But you have no sufficient proof. Would you convict partner?
And if you were innocent, would you accept being judged without proof ?
